SYL

Company Profile

The story of SYL is deeply intertwined with the story of the man behind the company. That’s why we want to introduce you to Mr. Avraham Gelberg.

Better known as Avi, the founder of SYL was born in Haifa, the third-largest city in Israel. He graduated in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, also located in Haifa. In 1989, he moved to Brazil after meeting his wife, Denise. Before starting his own company, Avi worked for the Iochpe-Maxion S/A business group, which operates in the auto parts and railway equipment sectors. He also served as an executive at Fundação Iochpe, an institute responsible for developing several social programs focused on vocational education for underprivileged youth.

In 1996, Avi formed a small group that would later become SYL. The first import was made from an office on Adolfo Gordo Street in São Paulo. The imported products were brake pads and shoes from internationally renowned brands. About five years later, due to the increase in imports, the inventory was moved to a larger warehouse on Souza Lima Street, near the previous location. The office and administrative area moved to Vitorino Carmilo Street. At that time, the group expanded its portfolio to include a wide range of automotive parts, such as brake discs, clutch kits, and shock absorbers.

Despite the extensive catalog, brake pads remained the flagship product. In 2001, due to growing demand, the SYL Group decided to acquire a factory in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo, and began manufacturing brake pads for both domestic and imported vehicles. In the first year, around 10,000 sets were produced monthly. This marked the beginning of what SYL would ultimately become. In just two years, production capacity had nearly sextupled. By 2003, with an approximate output of 60,000 sets per month, the company ceased import operations entirely and began focusing exclusively on the production of brake pads. Later on, the brand also began producing brake shoes.

From there, SYL’s success story as a manufacturer truly began. With high-quality products and a rigorous manufacturing process, the brand gained market share and recognition – paving the way to becoming one of the largest companies in Brazil. From that point forward, the company grew rapidly. Monthly production increased from 60,000 to 200,000 sets in less than five years.

In 2008, the company inaugurated a new industrial complex with large, modern facilities. This expansion enabled production capacity to reach an impressive 330,000 sets per month – positioning SYL as a leader in Brazil’s aftermarket auto parts industry. Since then, we’ve maintained that position and currently manufacture over 500,000 sets every month. We are also present in the international market, operating in several countries across Latin America, the Middle East, Europe, and North America.

With ongoing investments, SYL uses cutting-edge technology and high-quality raw materials to manufacture top-tier products. Our goal is to continually improve our parts and ensure a completely satisfactory buying and selling experience for our customers – while, of course, maintaining a strong and ethical relationship with all our partners and collaborators.
