FAW Nigeria Launches Affordable EVs with Game-Changing Models, Eyes Regional Momentum

FAW Nigeria has unveiled a lineup of electric vehicles (EVs) positioned as “game-changing” in both price and features, signaling an aggressive move by the automaker into Nigeria’s nascent EV market.

Among the vehicles revealed is the Bestune EV series, which boasts several standout attributes designed to appeal to urban motorists. Features include extended battery capacity, fast-charging compatibility, advanced infotainment systems, and rugged build quality intended to handle local road conditions.

Another model gaining attention is the Mini EV, a compact, stylish three-door vehicle with seating for four, powered by a 20 kW motor. It offers a driving range of up to 220 km per charge and a top speed of 100 km/h—making it ideal for city commuters.

FAW also introduced the MVP EV, a more powerful model for longer drives. It uses a lithium iron phosphate battery and supports fast charging (roughly 60 minutes for a full charge) or slower overnight recharging. Safety and comfort are emphasized, with features such as ABS, dual airbags, ESP, rear cameras, and interior amenities like leather seating and a 10-inch display.

At the unveiling event in Lagos, the automaker’s presentation drew a blend of stakeholders—government representatives, industry figures, real estate developers, and even celebrities—with Lagos State’s government expressing support for the green mobility initiative.

The move by FAW comes amid rising interest in electric mobility across Nigeria, as consumers and policymakers alike seek alternatives to fuel-intensive vehicles amid cost pressures and environmental concerns.
