Hyundai Nigeria Unveils Locally Assembled CNG Vehicles

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG) has gained momentum with Hyundai Nigeria launching CNG vehicles for a range of automobile users nationwide.

According to the company, the models assembled in Nigeria include the Hyundai Grand i10, Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Creta, and Hyundai Tucson.Hyundai Nigeria, a subsidiary of the Stallion Group, described its latest range as part of its commitment to supporting the federal government’s efforts to introduce sustainable, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly transportation solutions across the country.

Mr. Gaurav Vashisht, Head of Sales and Marketing, noted that the locally assembled CNG vehicles are designed to cater to a wide range of buyers, from retail customers to corporate clients with status vehicles.“For instance,” he explained, “the CNG Grand i10 is primarily aimed at fleet owners and first-time buyers, both groups prioritizing vehicle reliability and low ownership costs.

It would be recalled that the federal government, in 2023 introduced Presidential CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG), a programme aimed at encouraging automakers to flood the country with factory-fitted CNG vehicles.Because CNG emits far less carbon compared to traditional fossil fuels, vehicles running on CNG are more environmentally friendly. Also, owners of CNG vehicles pay an equivalent of about N300 per litre unlike petrol, which currently sells for almost N1000 per litre.
