LAMATA and SAGLEV Partnership Signals New Era for Nigeria’s Automotive Industry
Following the energy and momentum of the recently concluded Sustainable Urban Mobility Conference (SUMConference25), the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has taken another decisive step toward advancing sustainable transportation in Lagos. The agency recently hosted a delegation from electric vehicle manufacturer SAGLEV Electromobility Nigeria Limited to explore opportunities for collaboration in fleet expansion and local manufacturing.
The SAGLEV team, led by Managing Director Dr. Sam Faleye, met with LAMATA officials to discuss potential areas of partnership aimed at meeting the city’s growing transport needs. As Lagos continues to experience rising demand for mass transit, the discussions centred on how SAGLEV’s expertise in electric vehicle assembly could support LAMATA’s efforts to modernize and expand its fleet.
To better understand SAGLEV’s operational capacity, a LAMATA delegation, led by Dr. Kemi Amure, Head of Bus Services, and Engr. Osa Konyeha, Head of Planning, conducted a detailed tour of the company’s manufacturing facility in Ikorodu. The visit allowed the team to assess SAGLEV’s infrastructure, production processes, and readiness to meet large-scale supply requirements.
LAMATA’s engagement with SAGLEV aligns with its broader goal of enhancing public transport services while reducing environmental impact. By leveraging local assembly and production capabilities, the agency aims to deliver electric bus solutions that are both sustainable and suited to Lagos’s unique urban challenges.
If the partnership progresses, it could mark a significant milestone in Lagos State’s journey toward a cleaner, more efficient, and locally driven transport system.
