Motorcycle Import's Soared to ₦146.11 Billion in Q1 2025

According to recent data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria spent approximately ₦146.11 billion on motorcycles in the first quarter of 2025. An increase of ₦28 billion or 24.4% compared to the ₦117.4 billion recorded in Q1 2024.

The imported items were primarily "Motorcycles and cycles fitted with auxiliary motor, petrol fuel, capacity >50 <250 cc, CKD" from India, as detailed in the NBS report.

Beyond motorcycles, total spending on imported goods such as used vehicles, herbicides, polypropylene, and machinery related to voice, image, or data processing reached ₦7.8 trillion in Q1 2025—accounting for 21.67% of the nation's total trade.
