NADDC Advocates for the Local Manufacturing of Automotive Components
Joseph Osanipin, the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), has urged for a shift towards producing local vehicle components in Nigeria. He pointed out that many vehicles on Nigerian roads are fitted with parts sourced from abroad.
Osanipin remarked, "The automotive industry is essential worldwide. Countries such as Canada and the United States have imposed a 100% tariff on vehicles imported from China. We need to focus on this to support locally manufactured vehicles."He added, "Once we confirm the capabilities of local auto component manufacturers and test their products at our quality assurance centers—established to prevent substandard products from entering the market—we will reject any components that do not meet our standards.
He concluded,"The Federal Government's Auto Policy is designed to promote investment in the automotive sector, enhance the market, and generate employment opportunities."
