New Trade Fair Shopping Centre will Boost Regional and International Trade

The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex is set to undergo a significant transformation with the development of a new shopping centre, aiming to enhance both national and regional trade. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the complex, which has faced challenges in recent years. The fair aims to boost trade volumes, promote exports, and encourage foreign investments, thereby contributing to the nation's economic development.

The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment has established a committee to oversee the construction process of the complex, located along the Mile-2 Badagry expressway in Lagos. This move follows previous attempts to concession the facility in 2017, which did not materialize.

Nigeria Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, emphasized the government's commitment to rejuvenating the complex and developing it into a world-class trade center. He highlighted the necessity of retaking encroached lands and collaborating with the Lagos State government to ensure the success of the process.

The Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board, Charles Okoye, commended the management's dedication to improving the facility's infrastructure. In addition, a road maintenance task force will be included to enhance traffic flow and overall accessibility within the complex.

The planned shopping centre is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic growth by attracting investments, creating jobs, and improving economic activities.  

The Lagos International Trade Fair, scheduled to commence on November 15, 2024, is anticipated to play a pivotal role in this revitalization effort.
