Nigeria Accelerates EV Adoption for 2026

Nigeria is taking bold steps to accelerate electric vehicle (EV) adoption, positioning itself as one of Africa’s most important emerging EV markets and creating new commercial opportunities for the automotive aftermarket sector.

A major highlight of Nigeria’s transition is the Electric Vehicle Transition and Green Mobility Bill, passed in November 2025, which introduces one of the strongest frameworks in Africa to encourage EV investment and local manufacturing. 

Nigeria is accelerating EV adoption through policies focused on local manufacturing, investment incentives, and charging infrastructure, including:

• 10-year tax holidays for EV manufacturers to encourage local production
• Import duty waivers and toll exemptions to support EV investment
• A requirement for manufacturers to partner with Nigerian assemblers, begin local assembly within three years, and reach 30% local parts sourcing by 2030
• A national push for fuel stations to introduce EV charging points

Nigeria has also set a long-term goal of 100% zero-emission new vehicle sales by 2040, supporting its wider climate commitments.
