Nigeria’s Automotive Industry Grows as Innoson Nears Completion of Major CNG Plant

Nigeria is strengthening its position as a leader in Africa’s automotive industry as Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) moves closer to completing a new compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle manufacturing plant. The development highlights the growing demand for locally produced vehicles and alternative fuel solutions across the region.

The new facility is expected to be one of the largest plants dedicated to CNG vehicles in Africa. Once operational, it will produce thousands of vehicles annually, including trucks and commercial vehicles powered by compressed natural gas. The project also aims to create thousands of jobs and provide technical training opportunities for young professionals entering the automotive sector.

This investment reflects Nigeria’s growing ambition to expand local manufacturing and reduce dependence on imported vehicles. As governments and businesses across Africa look for cleaner and more affordable transport solutions, CNG technology is becoming an important part of the region’s mobility future.

The growth of Nigeria’s automotive sector is part of a wider trend across West Africa. Rising vehicle demand, population growth, and expanding infrastructure are creating significant opportunities for automotive manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers looking to enter the market.

As the industry continues to develop, the West Africa Automotive Show (WAAS) plays a key role in connecting local and global automotive brands with buyers and distributors across the region. Recognised as Africa’s largest automotive trade show, WAAS brings together international manufacturers, suppliers, and thousands of industry professionals from across the continent.
